Custom shades: common questions
What are custom shades?
Custom shades are made to the exact size of each window, in the style, fabric, color and operation you choose. They fit better and look more finished than off-the-shelf blinds.
Do you measure and install?
Yes. We measure every window, help you choose, and install the finished shades. For motorized systems we also handle power, programming and control.
How long do custom shades take?
Lead times depend on the product and brand. We give you an estimate when you order, and we schedule installation as soon as your shades arrive.
Inside mount or outside mount?
Inside mounts sit within the window frame for a clean look. Outside mounts sit on the wall or trim and can block more light. We recommend based on your window depth and goals.
Can I motorize shades I already have?
Sometimes. It depends on the shade type and brand. Ask us and we will tell you whether a retrofit motor or replacement makes sense.
Are cordless shades safer?
Cordless and motorized shades remove hanging cords, which is a plus for homes with young children and pets.
Can shades work with Control4, Alexa or Google?
Yes, many motorized shades connect to Control4 and other systems, so shades can join scenes like Good Morning and Movie Time.
Will blackout shades be completely dark?
Blackout fabric blocks light through the material. Light can still leak around edges. Side channels or careful mounting can reduce it. We explain the options for each room.
