Dolby Atmos home theater installation
Atmos adds height speakers so sound moves overhead. Getting it right is about the layout, the speakers and the setup. We design, install and calibrate Atmos theaters and media rooms.
Atmos layouts are written like 5.1.2 or 7.2.4: the first number is ear-level speakers, the second is subwoofers, and the third is height speakers. More isn't always better. The right layout depends on the room size, seating and ceiling.
We plan speaker positions around your seats, install in-ceiling height speakers and in-wall or in-room speakers, set up the receiver or processor, and calibrate so dialogue is clear and effects land where they should.
Common layouts
Picking an Atmos layout.
- 5.1.2: a great start for living rooms and smaller media rooms
- 5.1.4 or 7.1.4: the sweet spot for dedicated media rooms
- 7.2.4 and up: larger dedicated theaters with more seats
- Soundbar Atmos: Sonos Arc Ultra with a Sub and surrounds, when a full system isn't the goal

Do I need a dedicated theater for Atmos?
No. Many living rooms and media rooms get great Atmos with a 5.1.2 layout or a soundbar system.
Can height speakers go in a finished ceiling?
Usually yes. We plan around joists and lights and fish wire back to the receiver.
