What is pre-wiring?
Pre-wiring means running cables for technology while the walls are open, before insulation and drywall.
Why it matters
Adding cable after drywall is possible but more work. Pre-wire is the easiest way to get a clean, reliable result.
What to run
Common pre-wire runs include:
- Network cable to access point locations
- Network and power at TV locations
- Speaker wire for ceilings and walls
- Camera and doorbell cabling
- Cable to a central equipment closet
- Keypad and control wiring
