Brightness and glare
Sunlight washes out a normal screen. Outdoor TVs are brighter and often have anti-glare coatings. Placement also matters: think about where the sun is in the afternoon.
Covered or uncovered
Even on a covered patio, outdoor-rated equipment is the safer choice. Uncovered installs need equipment made to stay outside all year.

Full sun, partial sun or full shade
Outdoor TVs are usually rated for where they'll hang. Choosing the right rating matters more than screen size for a watchable picture in daylight.
Mounting outside
Outdoor TVs need outdoor-rated mounts and hardware, and a mounting surface that can take the weight in wind: studs, masonry or a post. Tilt helps with glare; full-motion arms let you aim the TV at the pool or the dining table.
Power and sources
Plan a weatherproof outlet with an in-use cover near the TV, and decide where the streaming box or cable box lives. It can be inside the house with the signal sent out over cable, or in a weatherproof enclosure. Outdoor streaming needs strong Wi-Fi, so an outdoor access point is often part of the job.
Salt air and the Jersey Shore
Near the ocean, corrosion is a real concern. Outdoor-rated TVs, stainless hardware and proper sealing help equipment last. Covering the TV in the off-season extends its life.
