Why hide wires?
Loose cables make a mounted TV look unfinished. Hiding them makes the TV look built in and keeps cables protected.
In-wall runs
The cleanest option runs power and cable inside the wall to a lower outlet. Codes require approved in-wall power products, so this is a good job for a professional.
Surface raceways
When in-wall is not possible, such as brick or concrete, a paintable raceway keeps cables tidy and can be painted to match the wall.
Shelves and consoles
A shelf or console below the TV can hide sources and cables while keeping everything accessible.
Plan the outlet
A recessed outlet behind the TV lets the TV sit flat against the wall.
What code-safe in-wall power looks like
A regular TV power cord can't simply be pushed through the wall. Code-safe solutions use an in-wall power kit: a recessed inlet behind the TV connected inside the wall to a power outlet lower down, with the TV's cord plugging into the kit. HDMI and other low-voltage cables run through the same path in a separate opening or a low-voltage bracket.
When the wall fights back
Fire blocks (horizontal boards inside the wall), insulation, brick, plaster and exterior walls make fishing wire harder. We check the wall first and, if needed, drill through a fire block from above or below, use a flexible bit, or switch to a slim raceway on masonry. Exterior walls with insulation can often still be done carefully.
Conduit for the future
If walls are open, running a conduit (a flexible tube) from the TV location down to the media cabinet makes future cable changes easy. New HDMI standards and new devices come along; with a conduit you just pull a new cable instead of opening the wall.
Where the boxes go
Streaming sticks can hide behind the TV. Bigger boxes like cable receivers, game consoles and receivers can live in a cabinet below, a nearby closet or a rack, with cables run in the wall. For larger homes, a video matrix puts every source in one place. See HDMI matrix.
Over a fireplace

Common questions
Can I just put the power cord in the wall?
No. Use an approved in-wall power kit so the installation is safe and meets code.
How long does wire concealment take?
Usually it's done in the same visit as the TV mount and adds under an hour for a typical drywall wall.
Can you hide wires on brick?
Often with a paintable raceway or by routing through the mortar and mantel area. We'll show you options on site.
