Control4 X4 is the biggest update to Control4 in years: a redesigned interface and app, better performance and deeper Apple integration. Here's what it means for your system and how we upgrade it.
Authorized DealerControl4 X4 (OS 4.0) redesigns how you use Control4: a new user interface, a new mobile experience and deeper integration with Apple technology. For most homes it's a worthwhile upgrade, but not every system can simply press update. Some older controllers, touch screens and lighting devices have limits or reach the end of their updates with X4.
We check every device in your system, tell you what will work, what will change and what's worth replacing, and then plan the upgrade so nothing in the house stops working. We upgrade systems we installed and systems other dealers installed.

Compatibility
What to check before upgrading.
- Controllers: CORE controllers are the foundation for X4. EA-series controllers can update, but lose the OS 3 interface in X4.0 and the on-screen TV interface in X4.1
- HC-series controllers (HC-250, HC-800) can't run current Control4 software and need a controller upgrade. See Control4 upgrades
- Lighting: X4 is the final build for Gen 1 and Gen 2 dimmers, switches and keypads, so plan their replacement
- Touch screens: X4 is the final build for T3 touch screens
- Registration: projects must be registered for Control4 Connect to use X4
- NEEO remotes are supported in X4.0 with the OS 3 style experience

Upgrading to Control4 X4: common questions
Can my system upgrade to Control4 X4?
Most CORE-based systems can. EA controllers can update with some limits. HC controllers need replacing first. We check your exact system.
Will my old keypads stop working?
X4 is the last version for Gen 1 and Gen 2 lighting devices, so they won't get future updates. We'll plan replacements so you're not caught off guard.
Do I need Control4 Connect?
Yes. Projects must be registered for Control4 Connect to be compatible with X4.
Can you upgrade a system another dealer installed?

How long does an X4 upgrade take?
Most homes take a visit of a few hours to a day, depending on how many devices need attention.
